Sometimes you just want to do something fun but quick to spice up your decor. One of the things we’re loving to try is modernizing old frames and kicking up the color combo on basic frames — all for cheap. We love this frame painting idea! Whether it’s to make an interesting statement with your wall decor or, like us, put a family pic in the frame for shelf decorating — it’s something you can do in 30 minutes (or less). This painting idea quickly updates a room and makes your decor look like a designer helped you out.
We took a simple black frame, made a custom color to match a pillow fabric, and in 3 coats we were done. The actual painting and mixing plus unexpected run to get a bit of orange paint took us about 30-40 minutes (not counting drying time). Pretty good!

Because we had made pillows a few months back, we saved the extra fabric as a decorating guide and picked up what appeared to be a good match of red paint. This is just acrylic craft paint that we got for under $2.
Being that most paints don’t turn out to be a perfect match, we knew this would be a creative matter. The red ended up being a bit too dark. So we pulled out an extra super light pink craft paint that we already had, mixed it, and started a second coat.
Two more color mixes later (which included a fast run to the craft shop to pick up some rusty orange to mix in, we ended up with the perfectly matching color that was vibrant but still within our accent color scheme. The clean up was done in a couple of minutes. We think we might still spray it with a bit of varnish, but for now we like the matte look.
