Baked Potato Toppings Kids Love

Here’s a master list.  If you plan ahead, you can have all the toppings you want ready to go.  Pop the potato in the slow cooker (see the video below) in the morning.  And when you get home, it’s a 10 minute prep to put out the toppings and wash up for dinner.  Make it a sort of restaurant style potato bar for fun.

The ones with and “*” give your family protein the meal needs in order to be balanced.

  • real butter (avoid buttery spreads with palm oil)
  • salt and pepper
  • shredded cheese*
  • cooked beans* (we like either home-cooked Peruvian or any organic beans from the can — beans are not a complete protein, but if you combine with cheese or yogurt you’re covered)
  • diced tomatoes
  • light sour cream
  • 0% fat plain Greek yogurt*
  • organic ketchup
  • steamed chopped carrots or peas or broccoli florets
  • salsa
