There’s a lot of reasons to love kale. In our previous post about all the super nutritious benefits of this green, it’s no wonder that it’s not only a trendy add-on for many dishes and drinks but also an immediate help to your healthy diet.
One of the top ways we love to use kale is in a homemade smoothie. But we make it simple. No fancy ingredient add-ons, just a handful of fresh kale, a banana, and seasonal fruit. It’s a 1-minute Kale Super Drink that is packed full of goodness.

For one tall glass of Kale Super Drink, we use one orange, one banana, 3-4 leaves of kale (choose the variety you like, just make sure they are washed well), 1-2 ice cubes, and about a cup of water (consistency to your liking).
We put all our ingredients in our favorite, high-torque blender, and blend for about 30 seconds. You’ll see the kale breakup into small particles and the drink turn into a glorious bright green. And you’re done!!!
Food safety tip: Make sure you clean your blender after each use, especially checking that the blades are rinsed clean. For us, it’s just a quick flash rinse, or if the kale is stubborn-sticky then a bit of a soapy brush cleaning and rinse.
Seasonal fruit tip: Also, during the winter we use seasonal oranges. But as summer comes, we use peaches and apricots. We try to go with the farmer market’s seasonal fruits. Strawberries are seasonal all year round.
The reason why we like the NutriBullet is multi-fold. It is super powerful, so it cuts down on blending time. It also is very easy to clean. It pulverizes our kale and other ingredients for our Kale Super Drink in less than a minute (usually 30 seconds or less).
What do you like to put in your kale shakes or other family smoothies?
