HEALTHY LIVING | 8.30.17 | by Terra Wellington
With back to school in full force, many families are having to adjust to a new routine. There’s the early morning rush, after-school activities to juggle, and late-night homework. Many parents and kids end up needing to find ways to stay healthy and get enough rest. Here at SMG, we hear you! To give you some helpful tips for back to school wellness, we’ve partnered with a few companies to give you ideas and information.
Get Enough Rest
It seems like there’s a lot on parents’ minds once school starts. And research says that when you don’t get enough sleep your mind is slower, you have less patience, and also have a harder time forming happy expressions. None of which is great for good parenting, of course.
You can help your family by quieting the household earlier at night to fall asleep more easily — turn off electronics and dim your lights. Most children and teenagers need 10 to 11 hours of sleep each night. Adults, between 7 and 9.
And for moms and dads, if you need extra sleep help you can look to a product from Natrol – its Advanced Sleep Melatonin Plus 5-HTP. The 5-HTP is formulated to calm your mind. And it’s bi-layer tablet has two forms of melatonin designed to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. It’s 100% drug free so that you wake up feeling refreshed with no groggy morning feeling.

Combat Those Germs
It seems like a lot of families experience kids getting sick within the first month of school. Lots of back-to-school germs!
In fact, the CDC says 80% of germs that make you sick are picked up by your hands.
And while sanitizing schools is important, it’s also important to teach children to keep their hands clean. Also have them avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands, because that’s how germs spread.
But there’s a hand sanitizer that can really help protect your children from germs. It’s called GermFree24 from Zoono. You apply it on your kids’ hands BEFORE the school day starts. It bonds a thin layer of protection on the skin and destroys 99.9% of germs on contact and works continuously to kill germs for 24 hours. It’s also vastly different than traditional hand sanitizers because one application lasts all day. This gives mom peace of mind even when she isn’t around.
Find Pesticide-Free Lice Treatment
While this is back-to-school season it also starts head lice season, which is September thru January. There’s always a ‘yuck’ factor with head lice. That’s for sure. And it can, unfortunately, cause school absences. Super lice are also out there, which are resistant to traditional pesticide treatments
Most lice are transmitted with head-to-head contact, like at recess sports. Or sometimes with sharing hats, brushes, or combs.
But if your child does get head lice, you can check out Nix Ultra Lice Removal Kit. The kit helps parents eliminate lice from heads and homes. It’s the number one pediatrician-recommended brand. It kills lice, super lice, and lice eggs. The solution is also pesticide free, which is important. Here’s a link to the company’s lice tracker, where you can spot and prepare for lice outbreaks in your area.
