Pay attention to plant-based protein

One of the newest food trends is more plant-based protein products.  Plant protein not from meat sources but rather from plants — such as peas, lentils, beans, chia seeds, and almonds.

This is great news for families because plant-based proteins tend to be lower in calories and fats, yet higher in fiber and other nutrients.

Check out dairy-free alternatives

An example of plant-based proteins are dairy-free products — such as dairy-free cheese and yogurt.

Daiya is a great example of this. They have a Greek Yogurt Alternative that is dairy, gluten, and soy free. It’s creamy in texture, delicious, and made from coconut cream. Each yogurt cup has 6 to 9 grams of plant-based protein.  It’s great if you’re lactose intolerant, vegan, or just looking to eat healthier in general.  It also comes in several fruit varieties, like blueberry. Plain and Vanilla flavors are coming this spring.

Choose everyday nutrition instead of constant diets

According to the CDC, one in five school-aged children is considered obese. And 66 percent of American adults are overweight or obese.

Everyday better nutrition can help with this problem, as well as portion control and regular exercise.  At Simple Mom’s Guide, we’re advocates for creating a healthier lifestyle versus just dieting.

The latest research shows that many people who are overweight have tried multiple diets that haven’t worked.  We have to remember that being overweight comes with consequences – such as a higher risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Changing to a more vegetable and fruit-based diet with plant proteins, grains, and lower fats can be very helpful.

How to have good nutrition with the time crunch

It can be hard to have good nutrition with both parents working and everybody on the go.   But some easy, helpful steps to take are to —

  • stay away from junk food’s empty calories
  • eat whole foods with lots of nutrients
  • even your drink choices matter

So, a great way to feel your best is to look for foods and beverages that work hard for your body.

Sunsweet Amaz!n Prune Juice is a good example.  It’s 100% juice, a good source of fiber with 3 grams of fiber per serving, and contains 5 essential vitamins and minerals. It also helps with digestive health, which is the foundation of good overall health.  And you feel energized when you have good digestive health, which is a huge benefit.
