Did you know that 1 out of every 3 students age 12-18 years old in the U.S. reports being bullied? There is an urgency to prevent bullying. According to StopBullying.gov —
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
In an effort to stem the tide of this difficult trend, TOMS is campaigning through the end of this month to raise funds toward bullying prevention. And you can help.
For every TOMS StandUp Backpack purchased through August 31, TOMS will help stop bullying one youth at a time.
This means TOMS will donate money for every StandUp Backpack sold to both bullying prevention and response programs. In fact, effective programs help to train entire school communities — teachers, students, and parents — so that they all know how to create a bully-free campus.
And isn’t that what we hope when our children go to school? That they are safe, nurtured, find good friends, and are helped along the way by peers and educators.
